Holiday Destination of the World!

Today I discovered via the radio that Cape Town of South Africa was voted, by millions of participants, the best holiday destination if the world.
That is all very exciting as this kind of exposure is sure to boost the economy and international interest within.

Not only that, Cape Town is in the short list for the Design Capital of the World as well, this takes place in 2014 and will be the feather in South Africa's cap.
This project, called The Fringe, has inspired many within the demarkated region to revamp and re- design, improve the look and feel to the area.
The Fringe, is where companies of all design facets are collaborating and brainstorming, working together to create an "out of this world" presentation of our capacity to design.

What this means for South Africans, especially the designers, is that there will be international interest directed towards us. The whole world will be watching to see what talent arises that will compete with the more established European trade.

Go check it out, search for The Design Capital Award 2014 and view the developments that have already taken place

Trends presented for 2010- 2011

Today I was one of many fortunate designers who managed to get a seat in Dave Nemeth's trend report presentation.
The presentation touched on various contributers to the trends of 2010 and 2011 and helped explain why designers are doing what they are and why.

As we speak, the Industrial age is making its entrance into the European nations, highlighting the construction and exposing, rather than concealing.

This trend is re- inforced by all the raw steel work, recycled materials, and re- claimed timber that are being used to create a more "lived in" approach with emphasis on the istory of the items and the character those items brought rather than a slick "clinical" approach.

It is going to be a very exciting turn of events in the near future!
